I actually got the idea from someone else. My college senior class president was said to carry dog biscuits in her pocket in case she ran into a dog and that way she could make friends. It seemed like a good idea, so I have a ziploc baggie of cat food that I carry with me so I can make friends with kitty. It's worked great so far.
Most people think that it's weird, but my friend Yasemin's mother told me that the editor for Vogue magazine in Turkey does the same thing. So I'm not alone ;)
