In other news, I am now 21. Clark and I went to the liquor store, and I got carded. As an individual, I am so pathetic that this made my day.

A booze suggestion: brandy (including Cognac and the wonderful Armagnac) is distilled wine; grappa (or marc) is distilled grape skins and other by-products of winemaking. In addition however there are a number of wonderful kinds of spirit distilled directly from other fruit: apples (Calvados, applejack), plums (Slivovice), pears (Poire Williams), and others, including raspberries (eau de vie de framboise, stagione di lamponi.) All of these can be wonderful but the raspberry ones can be really extraordinary--just opening a bottle can pervade a room with the scent. These tend to be pricey, but then again you can't drink them in quantity. So either treat yourself to a bottle, or get someone to buy you at least a drink of the stuff at a bar or restaurant (as an after dinner digestif) or, if it comes to that, get down here to San Francisco and cash the following marker:
