Date: 2004-12-19 01:17 am (UTC)"Aloha Manitoba" is just an amazing album from start to finish. His second non-Veal, "Outlaws - Live and Unreleased", record is almost as good, but funnily enough, I do not enjoy the live versions of "Pedro", "Outlaws", or "Another Woman" that are on this album as much as I do the studio. On the other hand, "Judy Garland" and "Spiderman" (both Veal songs found on previous studio albums) stand out much better live (in my humble opinion anyway).
How familiar are you with Luke's music, and have you ever seen him live? I have actually seen him three times (although the first one may not count since it was back in 94 I think, when he was playing guitar on Sarah MacLachlan's tour). The second time was a Veal tour in support of "The Embattled Hearts" and the third time was this past fall in support of "Outlaws - Live + Unreleased"
I look forward to hearing your comments...

Date: 2004-12-19 05:59 am (UTC)Anyway, I'm middling familiar. A friend and I saw him in concert--he opened for Barenaked Ladies when their "real" opener had an emergency. We were super impressed, so we got the album. You're right; it's awesome. I've been praying he'd play somewhere I can get to ever since, but no such luck . . .
