Random music theory musings:

I have decided to declare myself officially bilingual. I'm sitting here partwriting, and I thought: "It's really cool that these little black marks mean something to me. To a lot of people, they're just little black marks." Then I thought: "Hey, it's like reading in another language. Like cyrillic." Thus, I am now officially bilingual. I read and write music fluently. *nods decisively*

From "Project 1: Keyboard Orientation" in our textbook:
"The physical dexterity required in this study is minimal, since the piano is relatively simple to operate in a functional role." Translation: spastics and morons are S.O.L.

Who cares about diminished ii chords, anyway?

For some reason, I cannot write note stems straight to save my life. My barlines are reasonably vertical; my note heads are perfect ovals; my stems stagger like they're on a three-day bender.

I 6/4 chords are disgusting and wrong.

I second that.

I can draw stems that will save the world. My barlines are more vertical than an erect penis and my note heads apropriately and accurately complimentary. We are required to use a straight edge for EVERYTHIGN and aside from it being a nuisance, it does a marvelous job making everything straight, aligned and marvelous. my striaght edge is my firend.

IV 6/4 chords are even bitchier. We ahd to aurally recognize the different inversions of IV chords last friday. against DOH of the key, not DOh of the chord. I sucked.

diminished ii chords are cool. They show up in minor a fair amount. But I like diminished vi chords, becasue they show up in Melodic minor specially.

and finally, in the comparative ET music theory musings, I have a dilemma: if I try and make my harmonization for middle C soprano voice in open position, the tenor part is way the hell out of it's range. but to put it in range, makes it closed position. tehn again, if the soprano is singing way down at middle C, maybe it's relative anyways. bah.

it's all about plane of reference. but if I'm wrong, maybe we should just compare...

Dr. Pickett isn't that picky. We never have to do ear training again! *points and laughs*
DOH? I am not familiar with this abbreviation.
We're not even addressing vi0 (how would you make a diminished symbol?) because they're so rare outside of a theory context.

There used to be a coreq lab, but they got rid of it and, so far, haven't replaced it with anything. *evil grin*

I've felt that way for a long time.
