Music history quiz done. Weekend present. Mood much better than at 1 AM.
Next semester, I am taking:
All my music thingies
Elementary Ancient Greek
Gender in Chinese History
The U.S. Since WWII
European Popular Culture 1300-1600
I am a dumbass and didn't realize that my lack of music classes would put me on overload, so I have to petition and all that crap just to take voice lessons, which I hate. Grrrr.
I also hate that I can't take Ancient Near East or more music theory or 18th century music history. Stupid major. Ruining all my fun.

It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth, the minor fall, the major lift, the baffled king composing Hallelujahhh....

Funny -- I was just listening to Jeff Buckley's version of that song. Now I'm listening to Ray Lamontagne. If you like Jeff Buckley, you'll like him, too.

Oh God, the Jeff Buckley version is absolutely amazing. I LOVE that song. I love Rufus Wainwright (truly, I do), but his version is absolute tripe next to Jeff Buckley's. If you want to hear something funny, listen to the original version, by Leonard Cohen. It's awful. I can't believe what anyone saw in the original that would make them want to cover it, but I'm glad they did.

I like it too. The first time I used it, someone asked me if it was dead. Wasn't quite what I had in mind.

Ray Lamontagne? Perhaps I'll give him a listen.

Anyone who says a white man can't sing with soul never heard Jeff Buckley sing Hallelujah.

What is European Popular Culture? That sounds interesting. Does it count for social science distribution? Is it low enough level for the history feeble-minded like me?

"European Popular Culture 1300-1650 (HIST 379):
The period in European history generally associated with the elite cultural developments known collectively as the "Renaissance" was also a formative period for popular culture on the continent. This course will consider a diverse range of sources such as letters, diaries, socio-economic data, art, and satires to explore how urban and rural Europeans experienced societal change. Among the topics included will be the distinction between peasantry, bourgeoisie and nobility, and impact of printing, the history of manners, the invention of privacy, the social cohesion provided by community ritual and the impact of elite culture on popular culture."

You should take it! It shouldn't be TOO hard . . . and I will help you!

Perhaps I should finish reading the whole post before I comment. Still, I am VERY sad there will be no Mary.
