Leavin' on a southern train

Victory! We have reached Ithaca and unloaded the UHaul without incident. A handful more boxes to be moved from the truck, and all my stuff will be officially in my apartment.
So the plan for this week goes this way: I'll be here for a few days, unpacking and making my dad buy me things. On Thursday(ish), we'll leave Ithaca and drive to Georgia for my cousin's wedding. I'll be in the South, either Georgia or SC, from Friday night until Tuesday, when I fly back to Ithaca. From that point forward, I will be here for real. If you have my cell number, call me, for the love of God! I will be bored as fuck for most of this.
Meanwhile, a question: what do you think of meeting people via the Internet?

Some people? OK, especially if you might meet them later anyway, like when I got accepted to Whitman I met a couple of other pre-Whitties online. You should probably continue to meet people in person too though.

Meeting people via the internet: um. I tried it once in the "online dating" sense, but never wound up getting interested in any of the men enough to try meeting them in person. Meeting friends online seems pretty ok.

meeting friends online always seems horribly impersonal. i used to do "online chat rooms" way back when-- and as horrible as it sounds, if i ever ran into these people that i literally spent hours per week talking to for months, i would only remember the name, nothing they said or did or who they were. they were always just words on a screen. but maybe i just never connected with them.

Meeting someone in particular? I would say: trust your instincts. If you have any bad vibes from him/her, it is probably better to pass.

But, that doesn't mean you shouldn't meet anyone. There are definitely some people from WoW and okcupid I'd like to meet, just for friendship purposes.
