I'm a one-man guy in the morning
Aug. 30th, 2006 12:45 amSo, I have had all but one of my classes and a little time to absorb things.
The required seminar for the department (hereinafter referred to as 709) is just like 401 but with different papers and more reading. The other people in my cohort seem pretty cool. I am the baby. Of the four I've conversed with at any length (there are ten of us total), one is probably in her late 30s, one has a master's, one has a JD, and the other has been teaching for four years. There was a horrible grammatical error on the front page of the paper two students sent around for our perusal tonight, though, which makes me feel a little better. Say what you will about my youth and inexperience, I would never write "who's" when I meant "whose."
My history/classics seminar, "Religion and Authority in Late Antique North Africa," (hereinafter referred to as 630) looks okay. What I've done of the reading is pretty interesting. I'm not sure how much enthusiasm I can fake for north African religious politics, but I've already thought of a paper topic or two.
The Latin class I'm taking will be ez-mode. The professor keeps using grammatical terms and looking nervous, but she's yet to mention anything that I hadn't already heard from Dana. Also, I finally managed to buy the grammar, so I'll even know what's going on.
Otherwise, things are going okay. I still don't have a bank account--they keep requesting more information from me to prove I'm not a terrorist. Yes, I am going to use my pittance to blow up Cornell. I couldn't afford weapons of mass destruction. I couldn't even afford weapons of moderate destruction.
I'm still kind of lonely. I've met some nice people, but no one I've really clicked with yet. It's my fault, of course; left to my own devices I've chosen not to socialize. I'm too lazy and, strange though it might seem, shy. I think I'm going a bit peculiar, though. Well, more peculiar.
Goodness, this was long. Kudos to those who make it to the end.

Date: 2006-08-30 08:02 pm (UTC)Don't go all antisocial on me. It's a scary lonely place--WWC was like that for me and it kind of made me go a tad wonky after the first few months.
