Ruty made an interesting discovery today: we have squirrels living in our roof. They crawl in through a crack between the gutter and the roof edge. She has already informed you of our plans for world domination via the Dark Horde. But something seriously creepy happened to me this afternoon. I went into the kitchen to do dishes, looked out the window, and saw one of the aforementioned squirrels. It was sitting inside the roof, with only its tiny little head showing, WATCHING ME. It just SAT there, STARING. I swear the little fucker was PLOTTING. It occurs to me that Ruty and I may have unwittingly released an unimaginable evil on the world.

Three and a half pages written.

(Also, I'm on a major Guster kick. Hooray!)

Squirrels at this school get too damn close to you sometimes. It's unnatural, I say!

They need to have some FEAR instilled in them, if you ask me!

We should get Will to bring his .22 over and we might be able to encourage the squirrellies to find housing elsewhere.

RUN!!! THE SQUIRRELS ARE COMING! AHHHHHH! You know, having lived for 4 months with no squirrels, I find that I kind of miss them. Pigeons on the other hand...

How do you feel about living in a house with a squirrel infestation?

Sounds fine too me so long as they stay outside-ish. :-)

More or less. I called the landlord about it Sunday morning, and, per usual, we have heard nothing back.

Hmmm, could be trouble. My mom had raccoons in her roof, and they started breeding and like running around inside the roof. Apparently they were really loud and did major damage to the roof.
In all seriousness, for the sake of the house you may want to call a humane animal control place (if such a thing exists in W2) or your landlord so that he doesn't decide to charge you for the damages when you move out.

I've definitely thought about calling the landlord. He is extremely difficult to get a hold of since he is rarely home, and generally doesn't answer his cell phone either. It's taken us weeks in the past to actually get a human voice on the line, and then frequently he would say, "Well, I better refer you to my wife on that one." And then we would never get in touch with the wife since she seems to be phone impaired as well.

You should call anyways. You should also write down the date and time in a journal, and the result of the call. This is in case the squirrels do a bunch of damage and your landlord tries to charge you for it. If you have a record of an attempt to contact him to fix it it will much reduce your liability. People do this in divorce cases when they talk to their spouse (or ex-spouse, particularly in regards to child support and visitation) to great effect.
