This house-sitting gig is sweet. Wireless internet and satellite TV. w00t.
I need to get cracking on this thesis thing. Also this grad school thing. Murgle.
Borrowed from various:
--Why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she/he wears mismatched socks." I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.--

I'm back. I love Idaho weather. I will never complain again! I will simply apply so much lotion you can't see me beneath a layer of "Key Lime Banana Cream Amber Moisturizing Souffle." My Bath and Body Works addiction has gotten endemic. Must . . . stop . . . buying.
Moscow homies, call me!

Well, here I am in beautiful Columbia, S.C., where it is ninety-two degrees and a million percent (conservative estimate) humidity. I hate southern weather.
My family is here in force, and I very much enjoy 98% of them. It's the other 2% that gets me. We managed to get through the rehearsal dinner without undue incident, though, which is good. These lame-ass Baptists didn't even have champagne for the toasts. Cheap bastards. Sparkling grape juice just isn't the same.

My mother had a fit of feminism in church this morning and changed all the pronouns in one of the hymns. It was extremely . . . audible. I could hardly play for laughing.

Off to South Carolina on Thursday. My cousin's getting married, which means I have to make nice with all the people who don't know who I am and don't care, either. Better prepare to start introducing myself as "Harriet's daughter" again.

What is a "wain"? Presumbably one wrights them.

HOORAY!
O Frabjous day, calloo, callay!
Two happy things:
1. Andrea fixed my comptor! It was indeed an overheating problem, exacerbated by the fact that one of the fans was completely clogged with dust to the point where it wasn't spinning. So she blew it out and got it working and de-spywared and anti-virused everything. Plus one laptop cooler later, he is a happy camper and runs fast even when he's a little hot. Yay Andrea!
2. Andrea gave me WOW! I can now waste my time far more effectively. Yay Andrea!

Query for the computer savvy:
Why is my laptop suddenly running slower than molasses in January? This started about a month ago, maybe a little less. Sometimes it will be its old speedy self, usually after its been shut down for some time. (Simply restarting it makes no difference.) I've tried deleting extraneous files and potentially harmful programs, run a spyware remover, defragged the harddrive . . . Help?

Law & Order: SVU marathon. Yes! Except it's damn cold in this basement, as always. Ironic, considering I spent last night dying of heat. I ask you, what kind of sadist puts flannel sheets on the bed at the end of May? Answer to rhetorical question: my mother. But the screens are up now, so I will be fine tonight.
Big accomplishment for today was knitting a glove for my mother. It came out pretty well, I thought, especially considering I was hybridizing a glove pattern and a mitten pattern from scratch.
I am a acheever!

*sings*
Oh, Mary's job turns her . . . yes, it turns her . . . into an . . . update whore! Wo-wo-wo update whore!

Soooooo . . . bored . . . I'm never sure whether to count this forced inactivity on my timeslip. I'm not WORKING, but I wouldn't be here if I didn't think that there might BE work at some future point.

Maybe I'll make another blank Excel sheet labeled "AspSomething05" and count all this as work.
fellmama: (major)
Oh. My. God.

As many of you well know, this has been the busiest semester I've ever had. I had six or seven hours of rehearsal in a row sometimes. I tried to keep up with my homework and such, but I was definitely behind there at the end. My paper grades were uneven, I was apathetic and procrastinatory . . . I was fully prepped to take a minor grade hit. Nothing life-destroying, just a bunch of B pluses, but I was actually worried it might be enough to disqualify me for honors, despite the magic of GPA inertia.
But . . .

MUS-264B-B IntmdApplMus: Voice A
MUS-264C-A IntmdApplMus: Organ A-
MUS-254-A Accompanying A
MUS-242-A Chorale A
HIST-379-A TEH: European Popular Culture A
HIST-369-A U.S. Since Second World War A-
HIST-300-A Gender in Chinese History A
GREK-106-A Elementary Ancient Greek A
GPA: 3.914

I must be smarter than I thought I was.

Or better at sucking up.

I even somehow managed to wring an A out of Dana Burgess. Damn.

Ha! Unintended side benefit of creepy poking-through-window incident: talked to landlady on the phone . . . and she was the nicest/non-craziest she's ever been! Yay for crazy landladies being intimidated! And the kitty didn't yowl while I was talking to her, either, which I had feared. So there, crazy landlady. I violate the terms of my lease with impunity!
There is now a Nicole, and her internet is even working for the moment. We have no idea which network she's actually CONNECTED to, given that she's not on OURS, but it's working. w00t.
And I get to eat macaroni and cheese for dinner!

. . .

I am the saddest person alive.
fellmama: (weezer--www.dieselsweeties.com)
I ate food, and then I felt better.

Also, Aspen's party (what I attended of it) was a smashing success.

And Gordon got me a Keane poster! It's keen! Sorry, sorry. Please don't hit me.

Graduation makes me sad because all you mos are leaving. Bah. Stupid leavey mos.

And now Aspen is gone, and Ruty has already gone, and I am lonely.

The actual busy icon has an expression that is not AT ALL busy.

Moscow tomorrow . . .

Query:
For those of you poor unfortunates still awake, do I:
A) Take my Greek final tomorrow at nine, despite the very real possibility that I will pull an all-nighter,
-or-
B) Take my Greek final next week when I will have forgotten everything I know?

Pros to A:
~I am prepared to take it in the sense that I have studied my ass off.
~One more thing over and done with.

Cons to A:
~Having to take it on little-to-no-sleep.
~Losing a potential week of studying.

Pros to B:
~A week to prepare.
~Getting to sleep in a little, maybe.
~Getting to sleep at all.

Cons to B:
~Forgetting everything I know.
~Laziness will prevent studying.
~Don't get to sleep anyway due to stupid history paper.

Edit, 12:01 PM: I took it this morning. Probably failed, but it's done now.

In the grand tradition of Julia:

FUCK

I have lost the prompt for a research paper that's due Tuesday. This is not a regular research paper; this has some weird-ass thing where it's not really a research paper but a paper proposal(?), and it has to be eight pages.

I am screwed. And not in the good way.

Maybe I should just beg for an extension . . .

Edit, 8:33 AM: Success! One of my fellow students, blessings be upon her, has come through, and I now have prompt in hand. Well, in e-mail. And it is better than I thought--only 6-7 pages. Huzzah for Mariel!
fellmama: (major)
Boys are silly.

So am I.

This presents a problem.

Edit, 2:07 PM: Jesus, Mary, and Joseph! No crush, people, no crush. Just random flirting.
fellmama: (major)
Dude, I leave you people alone for TWO FUCKING MINUTES, and the whole world just falls apart! Sheesh! But no. All my TriDelt homies, I am so sorry for you. I don't know what I could do, other than calling up the EO and being like: "Give back Theta Omicron or I cut you, bitches!" But I'm here, I guess.

Mikado tech was two hours, fifty minutes, with a fifteen minute cast break in the middle. Our total RUN time is two hours. It was the most painless tech EVER.

I also have a thesis for my research paper. I have not, however, read anything for said research paper. Or the other "research project" I have to write. Crap.
fellmama: (weezer--www.dieselsweeties.com)
Ren Faire = done! Yay! And we sounded so GOOD. I was very impressed with my singers. Next year, on to six parts . . .
And I have purchased eyelash curlers and other girly accessories for Mikado. Well, and some just for me, but who DOESN'T like clear lip gloss. C'mon.
This is the best lullaby ever. My dad used to sing it to me.
Must go de-babify baby wipes so as to not get taunted by others.
fellmama: (major)
Success! I have obtained Mikado tickets for the following:
Ruty, Jeff, Clark: Thursday, May 5
Emily: Thursday, May 19
Barb, Julien, Aspen, Jack: Friday, May 20
If you are not on the list but would like a ticket, let me know, and I'll see what I can do. I still have tons of punches.

That is all.
