I dragged my sorry ass out of bed this morning and schlepped to the Heath Center, where I was informed that I could have a persistent, terrible cough for up to eight weeks before they decide something is wrong. On the plus side, I was given cough syrup with codeine in it, which means I can have extraordinarily vivid dreams if I so choose.
Speaking of which, I had the weirdest dream this morning when I took a nap after Greek. Dianne worked at the Writing Center with me, and, for some reason, Dana Burgess was holding a tutorial there. He had two beginning Greek classes instead of one, so there were a bunch of people I didn't know who kept asking me for help. At one point, there was a subplot (don't tell me your dreams don't have subplots) involving walking to the library and something to do with Warcraft monsters--I think they were hunting us for some reason. Anyway, when we returned to the Writing Center, Richard Gere dropped by. Turns out that he was an amateur Ancient Greek enthusiast and had a translation he wanted us to look over. It was pretty good, near as I can figure.
No real plans for this four-day. Stephanie and I are going to hang around here, except tomorrow, when she's going to Boise with Rob. Oooh, Boise.

Well. Isn't that something.
I have made a new buddy icon, and it RULES THE WORLD. Having obtained an animation program, I will never do work again . . . On the other hand, I don't have to depend on Meghan anymore. Well, until my free trial expires in a month.
Other news:
Our party was a resounding success. No one is dead, and the house is completely intact. Yay for parties.
I have THREE TESTS this week. Two are on Friday. Thank you, Drs. Burgess and Thompson for RUINING MY LIFE.
I have a head cold.
Stephanie vacuumed AND cooked AND did the dishes AND baked brownies, so she is now officially my favorite person of all time, narrowly edging out Jesus and Bill Clinton.
I need sleep.

Wow. Lj has changed the update page. *frightened and confused*
My professors are sadists. "Go ahead, Mary, analyze the theme and minor variation from this Mozart sonata. It won't take you THREE HOURS." "Go ahead, Mary, memorize the first declension. Did I mention that you need to know the second, too? And the accent rules!" "Go ahead, Mary, listen to EVERY ORGANUM COMPOSED SINCE THE DAWN OF TIME. There'll be a quiz!"
Kyra does not get abuse heaped upon her because I only have her class once a week, which means I can put off my reading for days and days and days.
Also, my thighs hurt because I had an organ lesson this morning. And I will never get enough sleep again.
Must . . . study . . . Greek . . .

Sep. 7th, 2004 10:19 pmDUDE. I LOVE this job. I have done all my homework, helped a really sweet freshman, paid our power bill, and have access to unlimited superfast internet.
I think I'm going to like working at the Writing Center.
In other news, our Greek last night included a phrase that almost everyone in the class translated initially as: "On one hand, the man is strong, on the other hand, he is a farm." "Lazy" and "farm" are real similar in the spelling, you see.
Kyra continues to amuse. She glossed Thucydides as saying: "Your greatest honor will be in not being mentioned; go have more kids." I'm sure it sounded better in the original.
I burnt dinner, so it sucked. But I will persevere, and despite Ruty's proclamation, I will make bean burritos again, because these were NOT typical. They are usually yummy beyond measure.
Boy, my life is boring.
Edit, 10:30: Productive lemon! So cute!

V is very, very extraordinary
Sep. 3rd, 2004 02:33 pmWe have LAUNDRY! This is so exciting! First, we had no dryer. Then, we had no washer. Now we have both, and it is GOOD.
In other news, Greek is going to kick my ass up one side and down the other. I have learned the word for "farmer." Also the word for endless.
Music theory is fun, and I've decided that I really like my fellow students.
Music history is right up my alley. I lurve teh Thompson.
And Kyra, in her infinite wisdom, has decreed that we will only meet once a week.
I have a an excellent crop of professors this go round.

Aug. 30th, 2004 11:32 amWell . . .
I'm here in Olin, checking e-mail 'n' such. The bathroom is almost completely done, our living room is taking shape, and, as always, my room is far from decorated.
We went over to Marta's last night--it's really cool. I am jealous. But I like our place, and I like my roommates. Housemates. Whatever.
I want classes to start RIGHT NOW. *grumble*

I figured I should update lest everyone think I have vanished into the deep blue yonder.
Our house is great, especially now that it is clean and has an actual table. Many pictures will be taken for Katie. However, it still lacks Internet, so we have to come to Reid to goof off effectively. We are also planning on cable . . . Baaaaaad idea, but we will be getting VH1! Wow, I never have to work again.
I'm very anxious for class to start--ran into Lindsey today, I should get in touch with Dianne, I have to e-mail Pete Holm . . . So busy. Also we are painting our bathroom.
Peace to all my homies in jail.

Aug. 22nd, 2004 11:19 amAnother whirlwind visit to Walla Walla gone by. My dresser and bed are now there after much effort on the part of myself and Ruty and her parents. Tip for those of you needing furniture: the Blue Mountain Humane Society thrift store has pretty nice stuff cheap, and they will haul it down to your car and load it in. I got a box spring for $15.
We have finally started to make a mark on our house, and it is great. We pulled down the beer posters. Next step: packing up all my stuff. Gar.

Memories, like the corners of my mind
Aug. 14th, 2004 10:09 pmI'll confess that I like walking at night so I can see into people's houses. Just harmlessly nosy; I don't stand in their flowerbeds or bring binoculars or anything. I enjoy the little glimpses of life people are willing to display to the outside world. It's strange, though to look into places that used to belong to someone I knew. The weirdest is Steph's (in my neighborhood, anyway). I know that house top to bottom. I've known it since I was four--probably as long or longer than I've known my own. And now, I walk past, and the people inside are not Steph or Cynthia or Peter. The furniture isn't familiar. I'm sure that they don't have a copy of Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats on the shelf in the living room, and that they put the Christmas tree in a different place, and that they don't have a trampoline in the basement. Yet I could walk in and know where the bathroom is, where to duck going downstairs. Strange.
Screw the raspberry ice tea
Aug. 14th, 2004 12:26 pmBourne Supremacy was decent. Both movies had excellent music, which I like. And Chinese food is goood.
Rach and Andrea came over last night. We had fun. Watched The Big Lebowski, which neither of them had ever seen(!). That is SUCH A GOOD MOVIE. Words cannot express the joy of Walter. Then we played Scrabble. I had a 72-point word. Of course, if Andrea hadn't set me up, I wouldn't have. But she did. Thanks, Andrea!

I didn't do any reading for about a week, because Aspen and I decided that TV and old copies of "Seventeen" deserved a higher priority. But I finally finished both books I'd been working on.
One was Brother Cadfael's Penance, the last in the series, and one of the best, if only because it is such a perfect capstone. Funny . . . the murder in this novel is merely a plot device, at best, designed to reconnect Cadfael with his old friend Olivier de Bretagne, but it didn't affect my enjoyment at all. She had the magic, she did.
The other book I finished was The Bourne Identity. It was okay--quite well-written for something of the genre. Ruty and I then watched the movie last night. After comparison, I can say that they have nothing in common, save the name "Jason Bourne" and the concept of situational amnesia. On the whole, I'd say I liked the movie better. It was a good deal more tightly plotted, and the woman didn't seem so cookie-cutter heroine. (And whoever heard of a beautiful Canadian economist, anyway?) I dunno. Spy thrillers aren't really my thing.
Off to Walla Walla tomorrow! As Monica would say, am v. excited.

Haven't you always wanted a monkey?
Jul. 31st, 2004 09:49 pmI'm back now.
The concert was awesome. We got a free seating upgrade for being there early and because it apparently embarrasses the concert people when they don't sell out. And I have a surprise for Rachel. Oooh, prizes.
Bellevue was fun because there was an Aspen and then there was momentarily a Stephanie and then there was a Ruty who picked me up.
Also, I used Aspen's little sister's conditioner last night because mine was gone, and it made my hair really soft. I should get some or something.
So I was looking up something on the library website, and I came across a video called "Mom, Can You Teach Me How to Hit?" I got all excited, but it's not a video for those parents who want to teach their children how to beat the shit out of other children. *sighs* One can dream.
I'd apologize for this being random, but I don't think that any of my friends actually care whether I'm coherent or not.

Here I am in beautiful University Place, WA. Six hours in the car with my brother, ugh. But my relatives are pretty neat, even if their house is a hundred million degrees. Off to see the Mariners tomorrow, and to the Barenaked Ladies concert with Aspen on Sunday. Hurrah!
I finished another Brother Cadfael last night, The Holy Thief. I had totally forgotten who did it (or, as
rootlesscosmo would say, who hath dunnit), so it was even better than the last one. I'm sad that Ellis Peters had to go and die on me. On the other hand, better she should go out before she became Lillian Jackson Braun. *shudders*
Edit:: That "hot" lemon is fantastic. It sums up my feelings perfectly. My kingdom for an air conditioner!
